What to Expect
What goes on in rehab?
We have made sure that, for each treatment center in Recovery Hub’s network, an excellent alcoholism or addiction treatment program is provided. Whether you are looking for a 30 day or 90 day treatment center, you will be comfortable in your surroundings. You can expect to have a peaceful and nurturing environment, often in a beautiful location. This helps to balance out the work you will do in gaining sobriety, and examining other problems in your life in order to heal and live a new and happy life.
What goes on in rehab is usually the following:
- Medical detox, if necessary. It is painful to withdraw from opiates like heroin and Oxycontin; many people try to do this on their own and just cannot stand the pain. Depending on the level of use, it is extremely dangerous to withdraw from alcohol or benzodiazepines such as Xanax or Valium, as seizures may result without pharmacological assistance and medical monitoring. You will be made absolutely as comfortable as possible during the process of discontinuing use.
- Talking with a psychiatrist to determine if you may need medication for other disorders such as depression, bipolar disorder, or post-traumatic stress
- Intensive individual therapy from counselors trained extensively in drug addiction and alcoholism. You will examine your feelings and the roots of your problems. Although there is a biological component of addiction, most of the time users of substances have begun the behavior as a form of self-medication or avoiding the pressures of daily life
- Many group therapy sessions in a comfortable environment so that you can talk with your peers about your addiction and you problems in daily life
- Classes so that you can learn the facts about alcoholism and addiction
- Family programs. Since alcoholism and addiction are known as “family diseases,” and because the family is sometimes essential in the recovery process, they will need to understand what is going on, how they can help in recovery, and oftentimes they can work with you on family issues surrounding your addiction.
- Preparation for leaving the facility and returning to daily living so as to prevent relapse and live a more stable life.
- Time to yourself to reflect on things, write in journals, and talk with other clients who are going through the same thing
- Recreation and activities; sometimes hiking, beach walks, going to movies, and other things designed to give clients a break from the hard work of beginning the recovery process
- Oftentimes, optional holistic healing such as acupuncture, exercise, equine therapy, working with a nutritionist, and yoga
- Introduction to 12-step programs, which oftentimes clients choose to attend after treatment to aid in recovery by having a group of peers who understand; or other spirituality programs such as at Christian treatment centers
- A safe place away from the troubles of daily life, in order to focus completely on yourself for 30 days or more
- Complete confidentiality
We will help you choose a rehabilitation center that is best for your individual recovery, and rest assured that you will be entering a comfortable facility with the best treatment program for you.
